Report: Studio Ghibli set for buyout

Famed Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli is set to be bought by Japanese online entertainment firm Dwango, according to a report.

Sources speaking to ZakZak, as translated by Kotaku, claimed as well as taking over staff and technology at the studio, Dwango will also take ownership of its copyright business.

The report has yet to be confirmed by either company.

Studio Ghibli is best known for its animated feature films that include Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away. It has also worked on games such as Magic Pengel and Ni no Kuni.

Dwango is an entertainment firm that runs Japanese video site Nico Nico Douga, and also owns game developer Spike Chunsoft, which has worked on a number of handheld titles for the Japanese market such as StreetPass Battle and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates of Infinity.
