Retirement ‘abhorrent’ to Molyneux

Peter Molyneux has squelched rumours of his retirement, calling the idea "abhorrent".

In November the Bullfrog founder and Fable creator said his next game would be his last, which lead to understandable speculation that this meant he would stop making games after releasing his next title.

Molyneux however, defies this logic.

"I wasn’t in any way announcing my retirement or saying I’m going to throw myself off the nearest bridge after my next game," Molyneux told Games Industry International.

"I’m either going to stop making games when everyone in the world just hates the games I make or the day when I die."

"I feel more passionate, more engaged, more energetic about making games now than I ever have. The thought of retirement is abhorrent to me. I would have to be in some vegetative state to consider retirement."

Molyneux left Microsoft’s Lionhead Studios earlier this year to found 22Cans, a studio he planned to create 22 experimental projects leading up to an eventual game incorporating lessons learned from the smaller experiments.

At the current rate of production, this would mean Molyneux plans to continue working with 22 Cans for well over a decade.
