Rockstar: GTA MMO a compelling proposition

Whilst the news of

online-mutliplayer

for the

upcoming

Grand Theft Auto 4 is exciting enough, the latest rumblings to come out of Rockstar are even more titillating.

Speaking to EGM magazine, Rockstar founder Sam Houser has said that an MMO version of Grand Theft Auto is very, very doable” and is a very compelling proposition”.

He also goes on to describe a subscription-based GTA MMO as the Holy Grail”, though he does acknowledge the difficulty in combining GTA’s destructive gameplay with the persistent world ideals of MMO gaming.

Could an online-only version of Rockstar’s massive franchise be the bridge to finally traverse the murky waters that separate PC MMO’ing from console-based subscription games?
