New studio aims to “twist the triple-A landscape”, produce one game per year

Scribblenauts designer forms Echohead Games

A new studio has been founded by former Warner Bros and THQ designer Matt Cox.

Echohead Games is based in Lawrence, Kansas, and is already hard at work on its first title – a game that will “resurrect a familiar franchise in an unexpected way”, according to the official release.

Cox – who served as lead designer on Warner’s Scribblenauts and designed for THQ’s Destroy All Humans series – also claims Echohead will aim to release one game per year in order to generate consistent revenue. Projects will range from small, experimental titles to online multiplayer games and full triple-A products.

Echohead marks Cox’s return to console development after he left back in 2009.

“I find games like Her Story, Rocket League and Rise of the Tomb Raider profoundly inspiring for very different reasons,” says Cox. “I want Echohead to be known for twisting the triple-A landscape as well as venturing into completely uncharted territory with more experimental games.”

So far, the only hint to the studio’s first project is fantasy concept art (pictured).
