Campaign reaches $400k in 28 hours

‘Shadowrun Returns’ on Kickstarter

The creators of the Shadowrun roleplaying game have taken to Kickstarter to fund a return of the series, meeting their $400,000 funding goal in under 28 hours.

The studio, Harebrained scheme, best known for iPad game Crimson: Steam Pirates, has had the rights to make Shadowrun for some time, but their licensing agreement prevented them from taking it to traditional publishers.

This was a problem- until the crowdfunding craze took off.

The success of other big games projects inspired Jordan Weisman, founder of Harebrained Schemes and creator of the pen-and-paper Shadowrun, Mechwarrior, Crimson Skies, and BattleTech, to take take their game to Kickstarter.

As of writing, the campaign has raised $440,000.

This means the game, originally for tablet and PC, will see a Mac release, with additional platforms and features to be added as donations keep coming.

Shadowrun is set in a future world, where traditional fantasy and ‘blade runner’ style futuristic tech combine. It has been a favorite of the RPG community since its release in 1989.
