Korean online game company seeks to improve quality with Epic Games tech

Smile Gate licenses Unreal Engine for two games

Smilegate announced today it has licensed Unreal Engine 3 for two new games, codenamed Project T and Project M.

The Korean online games studio was founded in 2009, and is best known for Crossfire, an online FPS which Smile Gate claims has had as many as 3.7 million concurrent users.

Though much of this success has been in Asain markets, Smile Gate plans to refocus their attention on a broader market. This is where the Unreal Engine comes in.

"“I am completely confident we can present players with the best game possible by combining our advanced development know-how with the technology of Unreal Engine 3," said Andrew Yang, vice president of Smile Gate.

"We want to get gamers around the world excited about the innovation and beauty of our two upcoming games."

Project T is an action MMORPG, and Project M is being called a "next generation shooter".
