Some secret free libraries that can improve your software performance

Shhh! Let me tell you a secret. There are several libraries from Intel which are part of the Intel Parallel Studio XE suite, but which you can also download and use separately for free. Although the libraries are widely used, you might not be aware that they’re available to you for free, whether or not you have a licence for Intel Parallel Studio XE.

Here are some pointers:

• Intel Integrated Performance Primitives Library (Intel IPP) includes thousands of optimised fundamental algorithms, including those used for creating digital media, image processing, computer vision, data compression and cryptography.
• Intel Math Kernel Library (Intel MKL) accelerates math processing routines, so if you have an application that involves lots of statistics processing, it can help.
• Intel Data Analytics Acceleration Library (Intel DAAL) provides big data analytics, so it probably only applies if you’re creating applications with substantial back end processing. It’s worth knowing it’s available for your toolbox, though.
