Sony Online Entertainment to open Indian studio

Reuters reports that Sony Online Entertainment, publisher and developer of the likes of EverQuest and Star Wars Galaxies, is to open a game development studio in India.

VP for business development & international operations David Christensen said the studio would most likely be based in Bangalore and that SOE is talking to potential joint venture partners in for setting up the game studio.

The team should be founded in the first quarter of 2008 and develop games for India’s PC online games market.

"We have identified a couple of game developers in India and we are in talks with them," Christensen said, saying Sony would provide technical expertise while the local partner would contribute to the physical infrastructure and local market expertise.
