Junction Point creative director to discuss cross-media challenges and triumphs

Spector keynote to launch GDC Europe

The man standing at the forefront of Disney’s games empire will offer the opening keynote for the GDC Europe event in Cologne.

Warren Spector will take to the stage on Monday August 16th and provide a keynote lecture entitled “What Videogames Can Learn from Other Media…What We Can’t…And What We Shouldn’t”.

Event organisers say Spector will “question the assumption that videogames should be more like other media” as part of his address. The experienced game designer will likely draw from his current project – a Wii title that draws upon 80 years of Mickey Mouse history.

Spector has in the past written a published novel, and was a film reviewer for the Austin Chronicle.

“It is always a pleasure to welcome to stage a long time friend of the GDC such as Warren Spector,” said GDC Europe Event Director Frank Sliwka.

“Warren’s breadth of work from Deus Ex to the highly anticipated Disney Epic Mickey demonstrates innovative game design. His talk will inspire current and new generations of European developers.”

GDC Europe will run Monday August 16th – 18th. Registration for the event will close Friday 12th August.
