Spyr founds new mobile development arm

Spyr Apps’ eponymous parent firm has expanded its mobile development offering with a newly-formed subsidiary.

The developer and publisher, which also happens to own a diner in Philadelphia Airport called Eat At Joe’s, has created Spyr Apps Oy.

The new company will be based in Finland – home to mobile giants such as Rovio, Supercell and Next Games.

"Having worked for and advised a few Finnish game companies in my career, I really appreciate the collaborative culture that has cultivated some of the best and brightest talent in the world,” said Paul Thind, MD of games and apps.

“As we grow the business, we thought we should have a presence in Helsinki, which would allow us to not only be able to reach out to the developer community in the Nordics, and in Western and Eastern Europe, but also to work closely with SuperPlus and other potential developer partners.

“This is another step in Spyr’s development as a truly global mobile games company."

The company is currently working with SuperPlus, the new studio founded by former Rovio devs, on a game called Retro Shot (pictured).
