Canadian team sets out to dominate free-to-play mid-core strategy mobile market

Strategy startup TinyMob scores $2m in seed funding

Canadian mobile free-to-play startup TinyMob Games has raised $2 million in seed funding from local angel investors.

The Victoria-based studio was founded by Alex Mendelev, Chris Hoefgen, and Jamie Toghill just two months ago and is planning to launch its first title in spring 2014.

TinyMob hopes to become the industry leader in the mid-core free-to-play mobile strategy market.

“TinyMob Games is going after an exciting and rapidly growing genre in the gaming industry,” said 20th Century Fox’s vice president of interactive, Michael Doyle.

“With a strong strategy and a wealth of experience, I am excited to see how they will influence the industry in the years ahead.”

The founding trio bring years of experience, with CEO Mendelev and CTO Hoefgen coming from Canadian Facebook gaming success story Backstage Games, and Games Director Toghill having worked at a variety of big-name outfits, including EA, Interplay, Microprose, and Disney Interactive.

The team is currently looking for new members in a variety of positions listed on its official website.
