Sumo Digital acquires art studio Atomhawk

UK games studio Sumo Digital has expanded their services with the acquisition of Atomhawk.

Based in Gateshead and opened in 2009, Atomhawk has been working in digital art and design across many different mediums, including video games. Some of the recent work from the studio includes concept art and animation for Warner Bros. Injustice 2, marketing art for Rebellion’s Sniper Elite 4 and UX/UI for Conan Exiles.

The move will help the Sumo Digital group to offer more services across digital media, but Atomhawk will remain independent in its operation, according to CEO of Sumo, Carl Cavers. "Atomhawk and Sumo Digital have a long-standing relationship and look forward to realising their shared vision of creating a powerhouse for high quality creative and development services that will benefit current and future clients across all sectors," said Cavers on the Atomhawk website

“This investment and strategic support enables us to realise our ambitions to drive Atomhawk forward – expanding the creative services we offer and the imminent opening of a second studio in North America,” said managing director of Atomhawk, Cumron Ashtiani. No other details of the deal have been disclosed.

Sumo Digital, based in Sheffield, is a game developer and work for hire company, currently working on Crackdown 3 for Microsoft and Dead Island 2 for Koch Media. The studio recently released its own IP, Snake Pass, across PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The studio has also expanded their own operations with a studio in Nottingham and one in Pune, India.
