The Flappy Bird saga bounds on with a pixeled tribute from Terry Cavanagh

Super Hexagon creator releases free Flappy Bird tribute

Super Hexagon creator Terry Cavanagh has released a free browser game tribute to Flappy Bird, the mobile game that’s been causing a stir all week for its “additive” gameplay.

Built using Super Hexagon code, Maverick Bird is currently available to play for free from Cavanagh’s website.

“Thanks for the inspiration, Dong. Looking forward to your next game when things settle down,” Cavanagh wrote on his website.

The game – which you’ll be lucky to last longer than two seconds playing – features in ‘Vietnam’ by electronic musician Kozilek.

Later this year, Cavanagh also plans to release the retro-grade platformer that made his name, VVVVVV, on multiple platforms.

Earlier this week, Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen explained that he pulled the game from sales because it “became an addictive product”.
