Clash of Clans and Boom Beach creator teams up with Apple to offer charitable (RED) in-game purchases

Supercell uses microtransaction money to fight AIDS

Mobile giant Supercell and Apple have partnered to help the battle against AIDS.

The studio is to offer a portion of its microtransaction revenue to charity members of The Global Fund To Fight AIDS this week (via Gamasutra).

Special (RED) cosmetic purchases in Clash of Clans, Boom Beach and Hay Day will go towards the total.

The move comes following World AIDS Day on December 1st, which aims to raise awareness, understanding and support of the illness.

It’s not the first time Supercell and Apple have united for a good cause – money generated by Clash of Clans has previously been donated to global charities.

Apple has also teamed up with Angry Birds firm Rovio and Puzzle & Dragons creator GungHo for similar efforts in the past.

Supercell saw its sales triple and revenue double in 2014, thanks to the stratospheric success of its three flagship titles.
