Tax breaks news linked to UKIE event?

Yet again, all signs point to the long-awaited announcement of video games tax credits in the extremely near future.

UKIE has revealed it will be holding an event dedicated to tax relief on April 4th in collaboration with the TV Coalition. The trade body has secured a visit from "a senior government minister" to discuss games industry tax reliefs, as well as reflect on the first full year of tax breaks for the high-end TV and animation industries.

Given the recent buzz around a supposed announcement during this year’s Budget – which, sadly, didn’t come to pass – and news that tax breaks could be confirmed this week, it doesn’t take a genius to work out why UKIE is setting this event up.

The event is being held at BAFTA at 9am, and will include presentations from UKIE vice chair Ian Livingstone, and British Film Commission chair Iain Smith.

"We’ve worked very closely with government to help get a tax relief scheme introduced for UK games businesses and are delighted to host an event to discuss this hugely important tax relief, alongside our partners in the TV and animation industries," said UKIE CEO Jo Twist.

"We’re very much looking forward to having the opportunity for the games sector to discuss the relief with the Government and to hearing some of the positive stories that the TV and animation sectors have to tell one year on from the introduction of their reliefs."
