Initiative would be open to small to medium-sized businesses

TIGA calls for tax relief on training in creative industries

TIGA and digital trade body BIMA have called for a new tax relief scheme on training in the creative industries.

The tax breaks would be open to small to medium-sized businesses and would allow SMEs to offset expenditure on employee training, continuous professional development and education outreach activities against corporation tax.

TIGA claimed while UK employers do currently provide training; the duration is shorter than the EU average.

“This measure would enable developers and other businesses to finance management training, strategic skill development and promote investment in continuous professional development,” said TIGA CEO Richard Wilson.

“It would also lead to stronger business-educational links. In the case of the game industry, more developers would have the incentive and resources to provide guest lecturers to universities, contribute to course development, participate in school, college and university career days and make work placements available.”
