Torsten Reil: Tax breaks mean UK can compete with Canada

Today’s Budget announcement of the introduction of UK games tax breaks will help the country compete with Canada, says NaturalMotion boss Torsten Reil.

"We are delighted about today’s announcement by the Government to introduce tax incentives for video game developers,’ said Reil, who’s company makes animation tool Morpheme.

"This is a big and important step towards allowing the UK to compete on a level playing field with heavily-supported countries such as Canada," he added. "For us, it is particularly timely as the initiative coincides with our expansion plans across various studios. Hiring in the UK just has got more attractive."

NaturalMotion established itself as a games development tools company, but has recently met with great success developing its own games, including the hugely popular iOS title MyHorse.

Specific details of the measure have yet to be announced. At the time of going to press, the 2012 Budget documents have not been released for review.
