Trevor Williams leaves Codemasters

More personnel news coming out of Codemasters today: its Birmingham studio head Trevor Williams has confirmed to Develop that he has left the firm.

Williams is departing on good terms with the firm to pursue new opportunities in the games industry – he leaves exactly one year after his studio Swordfish was bought by Codemasters from Activision.

Swordfish was spun out of the collapsing Rage Studios in 2002, and bought by Vivendi in 2005. After Vivendi and Activision merged their games businesses, Activision decided it didn’t want another UK studio, hence the Codemasters sell off.

Williams remained on board throughout to manage the transition and became a key exec at Codemasters and its fast-growing UK studio operation. He collected the Develop Awards Grand Prix gong Codemasters won at the July event.

However Develop understands Williams wants to try something new in the games industry.

Gavin Cheshire, VP of Codemasters Studios praised William’s year working at the firm: "Since joining Codemasters in late 2008 following the acquisition of Swordfish Studios, it’s been a pleasure to have Trevor on the senior studios team and his contribution has been of great benefit to our Southam, Birmingham and Malaysian studios; we wish him the very best in his future projects."
