New studio founded by former DICE Canada staff finally gets go ahead from investors

Tusk opens for business

Ontario, Canada-based Tusk, founded by a former employee of DICE Canada, has finally announced it was open its doors formally following a round of investment.

In an announcement, the studio said that after "a lengthy search for startup capital" it was now slated for a February 1st start date and is already in talks with publishers over its first project.

Company owner and president, Armando Marini commented: “It’s been a long and hard road. There were a few times when I thought this day might never come. I’m extremely excited to see everything finally come together.”

Marini added, however, that his team won’t be following the same path as many other start-ups.

He said: "I want to make sure that we don’t make things more difficult on ourselves. It seems like every startup I see is working on an MMO, so to me that’s a red flag saying stay away from MMOs or at least be far removed from the status quo. In gaming, a particular game will own a sector. Everyone else will fight for scraps. I don’t plan on fighting for anyone’s scraps. If we put a ton of effort into something, it has to be effort well placed."
