Coincidental mention of sex in 'VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj' file alerts ISP filters

UK porn filter blocks League of Legends update

New internet porn filters activated in the UK are preventing League of Legends players from downloading the game’s latest update.

As reported by The Guardian, due to the word sex appearing by coincidence in two file names, ISPs are automatically blocking the download and creating "file not found" errors.

The particular files in question are named ‘VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj’ and XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj. It appears that such references were enough to trigger the block.

The issue is said to only be affecting new internet account owners set up in the last month. It appears the only course of action UK players can currently take is to contact their internet service provider and ask to turn off the porn filter.

ISPs have begun automatically activating porn filters for their users following government plans to make the internet a safer place for children. Users are required to contact their ISP to get it switched off.
