Undertonesâ?? Feargal joins GameCity piracy debate

Illicit filesharing will be a central topic at the upcoming GameCity event in Nottingham, with former Undertones front-man Feargal Sharkey joining a panel discussion on piracy.

Sharkey – lead vocalist of The Undertones when the group broke through with its popular single ‘Teenage Kicks’ – will join both Blitz Games CEO Phillip Oliver and Positech Games boss Cliff Harris in a panel debate entitled ‘Stealing is Wrong: Beyond Filesharing’.

The debate will explore the effect of piracy on both the music and videogame industries, but it also will invite those attending to offer possible solutions to the ongoing problem.

"One of the things we’ve always tried to do at GameCity is not to look at games in isolation, but as part of a rich ecosystem of other cultural works,” said GameCity director Iain Simons. “Having UK Music along to GameCity Squared is a great opportunity to look at videogames in the context of the rest of contemporary culture.”

The announcement follows a string of events already set for the fourth annual GameCity, which will take place from 27 – 31 October.

The event will also see a developer discussion from Jonathan Smith, head of Produstion at Traveller’s Tales, as well as talks from Jagex, Bizarre, NanaOn-Sha, ThatGameCompany, David Braben and many more.
