University ‘forms dev team for Zool revival’

A group of students at Sheffield Hallam University have formed their very own on-campus development team, a news report claims.

The outfit, which in a Eurogamer article appeared to be without a name, is currently reviving the moth-eaten game franchise Zool.

The students will provide a range of directions to take Zool forward, with Ian Stewart – founder of Zool studio Gremlin Graphics – deciding on the final direction.

The project is hoped will result in a fully-published game for PSP Minis.

Sumo Digital creative director Sean Millard, and Revolution Software founder Charles Cecil, will both mentor the team.

“The lecture marks a new relationship between Sheffield Hallam and local developers Sumo-Digital, who have an industry heritage which dates back to the 1980s," said the university’s PhD research student Jacob Habgood.

“It also marks a new era in gaming education provision and knowledge exchange at the University in that we are now one of the few universities in the country to have an in-house development studio for our students.”
