New 4.1 update refines mobile workflow and makes hundreds of improvements

Unreal Engine 4 adds PS4, Xbox One and Linux support

Epic has added PS4 and Xbox One development support at no additional charge to subscribers of Unreal Engine 4.

The offer is specifically available for registered PlayStation and ID@Xbox developers. Epic has also added support for SteamOS and Linux as part of its 4.1 update.

Other platforms already supported include PC, Mac, mobile and web.

The 4.1 update also includes new game templates for C++ programmers and designers using Blueprint visual scripting, a refined iOS and Android workflow and more than 100 other improvements to the platform.

Epic announced a new subscription model for Unreal Engine 4 during GDC, revealing it will now cost developers $19 a month plus an additional five per cent of gross revenue from sales to use.

The game engine’s complete C++ source code is also hosted on GitHub, with users creating thousands of development forks on the site to improve the engine.

You can find all the latest enhancements on the official website.
