$5 million for the British social games group

We R Interactive scores new funding

Social games group We R Interactive has secured $5 million in a second round of funding, the group has announced.

The private investment has come from existing shareholders and two new investors, though individual details are thin.

Paul Fitzsimons, an ex-media sector partner at Apax Partners, has become a new shareholder. Elio Leoni-Sceti, the former CEO of struggling music firm EMI, is also funding the London-based games venture.

Money will be used “support the ongoing development and globalisation of We R Interactive’s first game, I Am Playr, read a company statement.

I Am Player, which launched in March, is a unique first-persin football game played across Facebook and We R Interactive’s own dedicated website.
