Plymouth-based studio to develop social top-down shooter Campy Command: Nowhere to Run

Wellcome Trust awards funding grant to Remode

The Wellcome Trust charity has awarded Remode a grant to develop a new educational game called Campy Command: Nowhere to Run.

The title is designed to help teach players more about science by giving users control of a microscopic organism as it consumes amino acids and moves from the inside of a chicken gut to a human’s.

The concept for the title was originally formed at the Wellcome Trust Gamify your PhD event last year, in which students in biomedical sciences and medical humanities teamed up with game developers to turn research ideas into playable games.

“This is a great opportunity to create a game that will not just be fun to play, but also getting people interested in science,” said Remode CEO Ella Romanos.

“The game play will be inspired by top down shoot-em-ups, with a humorous narrative and fun social features.”

Wellcome Trust games manager Rachel Hillman added: “We are excited to see how the idea is evolving from the prototype they developed at our Gamify your PhD event and look forward to seeing how Remode integrate the science into the game play.

"It’s great to be able to continue to support the game; we hope Campy Command: Nowhere to Run will stimulate discussion and bring science into the culture of games.”

News of the funding grant comes just a few months after Remode was also awarded £100,000 by the Creative England Business Investment Fund for sci-fi strategy browser title Burrow.
