Windows 10 to have built-in AR viewer

Microsoft have shown of their newest feature for Windows 10, a ‘View Mixed Reality’ feature.

Announced today during a press event by Microsoft, the augmented reality viewer will be built-in to the operating system and will be able to be used by any laptop with a webcam. This also follows the announcement of the Windows 10 S operating system

At the moment, the software is designed to be used to augment 3D objects that are created in the 3D Paint app, in to a real world setting using a laptop/tablet with a webcam.

Whilst this has no immediate effect on gaming, it’s worth pointing out that apps on the Windows Store can also be used with Xbox One, if controls allows. Maybe there’ll be a use for that Kinect you’ve got after all.

Microsoft have been working with mixed reality for a while now, having announced a headset deal with Acer earlier this year and the development of the Microsoft HoloLens still ongoing.

The update is due to be implemented in to the operating system later this year.
