New Microsoft OS to launch this autumn

Windows 8 confirmed for October 2012 release

The latest incarnation of Microsoft’s operating system, Windows 8, will be released on October 26th 2012.

Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows division at Microsoft, made the announcement yesterday at the company’s annual sales meeting in Atlanta.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that Windows 7 users would be able to upgrade to the Pro version of Windows 8 for a reduced price.

Windows 8 is also coming to Microsoft’s new tablet computer, Surface.

Microsoft is also approaching developers for its upcoming Windows Store, which will launch later this year. UK developers can find out more about registering for Windows 8 development here.
