Subscription MMO still going strong 2004 release

World of Warcraft subscriptions rise by 200,000

Blizzard’s fantasy MMO World of Warcraft has garnered another 200,000 subscribers after months of decline.

In November it was reported the title had 7.6 million subscribers, and had steadily been falling for years.

Between February and May last year, the title was said to have lost 1.3 million, but subscriptions have since held steady.

This is despite the fact that no expansions have been released in the last year, with the last release coming in September 2012 with Mists of Pandaria.

The next expansion to the MMO, Warlords of Draenor, is expected to be released on November 8th.

World of Warcraft was first released in November 2004 in North America, and February 2005 in Europe. At its peak the MMO had more than 12 million subscribers.

While numbers have fallen, the title is still the most-subscribed MMO in the world despite approaching its tenth anniversary.
