Xbox 360 sells 18m worldwide

Microsoft’s GDC keynote speaker, John Schappert, has claimed that the 360 has sold more than 18 million units worldwide.

Speaking in an interview with Eurogamer, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Live, Software and Services said:

"I think that we’ve sold 18 million, the last time I’ve checked. 18 million hardware units worldwide."

Schappert also implied that it is unlikely a Blu-Ray drive will be released any time soon.

"We have no plans to announce or anything like that right now. But I’d also urge you to look at the attach rate for the HD-DVD drive," he said. "It was a three per cent attach rate…you also have to take into account how did the other accessory do when you look at the future."

Furthermore, Schappert said that Microsoft would fund more Xbox Live Arcade games itself.
