Games Media Awards 2013: The Finalists

Over 50 writers have been named as finalists at the UK’s specialist awards celebrating the very best in games journalism.

The annual Games Media Awards cover all corners of the games press, national press, lifestyle media, national newspapers, radio, TV and blogging community.

As well as the 50 writers up for individual awards, there are almost 60 online, broadcast and print media outlets named as finalists.

The winners will be voted for by a panel of over 150 judges from the professional games press and then announced at the awards evening on Thursday October 10th at Vinopolis, Bankside, London.

The prestigious Games Writer of the Year and the new Games Media Academy categories are judged separately.

Gold Partners supporting the event this year include Battlefield 4, Nintendo 3DS, Xbox, PlayStation, Watch Dogs and NCsoft. Deep Silver is the Drinks Reception Partner, OnLive is sponsoring the After Show Party and Gamescom is an Event Partner. Individual category sponsors include Green Man Gaming (Top Tweeter), Sega (Games Writer of the Year) and Disney Infinity (Rising Star).

350 guests will attend the awards ceremony, which is being hosted by improv comedy troupe The Noise Next Door, including 200 media. Trade tickets are available at 150 each. Contact Kathryn.Humphrey@intentmedia.co.uk to book.

A limited number of sponsorship opportunities are also available by contacting caroline@indigopearl.com.

GAMES WRITER OF THE YEAR

After its successful debut in 2012, the Games Writer of the Year Award has returned to reward excellence in games journalism.

All games journalists – specialist, non-specialist, print and online – were eligible to enter this category, submitting a piece of writing published since October 18th last year. The entries are being judged – totally anonymously – by award-winning journalist and Guardian columnist Tim Lott.

The anonymity required for this category means that the names of the media who have submitted work for the award will not be revealed ahead of the event.
