For Honor gets ranked and tournament modes in PTS update, hinting at esports future

For Honor is getting ranked and tournament play today, with a beta for PC players on the Public Test Server (PTS)

The beta will only have 1v1 Duel tournaments at the moment, although future modes are planned. Does this mean there’s an esports light in the future for Ubisoft’s hack and slash combat game?

It would be a shot in the arm for the game if so, as it rapidly lost its playerbase, with VG247 this month reporting that For Honor has lost 95% of its playerbase. Regardless, the game always seemed bound for esports with its high skill cap and fighting-game esque characters to master.

PCGamesN have a great guide for getting into the beta if you’re curious about how that plays out, although before you can get into ranked play you’ll need to make 20 placement matches. You can hop into tournaments immediately, which will start with a qualifying round before dropping you into the medievil Thunderdome for real.

The PTS will run from today until July 4.
