Lionsgate makes move into gaming

Hunger Games film company Lionsgate has announced that it will be opening a game division.

This arm of the company will be headed up by Peter Levin, formerly of YouTube and podcasting network Nerdist Industries. He has also served as an executive advisor for Angry Birds firm Rovio.

In his new role as president of interactive ventures and games, Levin will be tasked with moving the film company into video games.

He will be both searching for new IP to invest in as well as having the power to turn the firm’s existing properties into games.Might we see a Hunger Games video game in the near future?

In a statement the company’s CEO Jon Feltheimer said: "Peter is a perfect fit for our entrepreneurial culture, and he is ideally qualified to lead the continued growth of our content business into the video game space and other interactive digital ventures.

"Gaming has become one of the most explosive growth areas of the content business, and Peter’s mandate will be to build a portfolio of premium digital properties as we expand our leadership in films and television programming into digital content as well."
