More people watched EVO on Twitch than ESPN

EVO’s first ever broadcast on TV pulled in an average of 201,000 viewers, but that still wasn’t enough to beat Twitch’s concurrent numbers.

The final of the Street Fighter V competition was broadcast on ESPN2 on Sunday evening as well as being streamed on Twitch. While ESPN2 averaged 201,000 viewers the Twitch stream peaked at a concurrent 208,496 viewers.

Those figures don’t mean that the EVO broadcast on ESPN2 was poorly received, as it did similar numbers to ELEAGUE, which is broadcast on TBS every week. It also significantly outperformed Heroes of the Dorm, which was ESPN’s first ever eSports broadcast, by bringing in more than double the amount of viewers.

Lee "Infiltration" Seonwoo ended up winning the largest fighting game tournament ever, beating Ai "Fuudo" Keita in the final.

Interestingly Street Fighter V wasn’t the most watched Twitch stream of the EVO weekend. That honour went to the Super Smash Bros. Melee finals, which brought in 232,900 viewers on Twitch. This was most likely due to Street Fighter’s 3am start time in the UK.
