Black Ops claims record pre-orders

Retailer GameStop has confirmed that it has received a record number of pre-orders for Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, which releases worldwide on November 9th.

The news puts the game on-track to beat the industry records set by last year’s instalment in the series Modern Warfare 2 – putting it on track to achieve the lofty goals set by Treyarch’s Josh Olin when speaking to MCV in May.

GameStop is tracking to all-time, record reservations on Call of Duty: Black Ops,” GameStop’s SVP of merchandising Bob McKenzie stated.

We are ahead of where we were with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year, which previously set the industry standard.”

The announcement comes as GameStop announced a pre-order sweepstake for the game in North America.
