Oculus Rift secures additional $75m for consumer model

Oculus Rift has secured an additional $75m from investors to help bring the VR headset to market.

VentureBeat reports investment firm Andreessen Horowitz provided the funding in a deal which offers an Oculus Rift board seat for the company’s co-founder Mark Andreessen.

The capital will be put toward the completion of a consumer model for Android, Linux, Mac and PC platforms.

This additional infusion of capital, as well as the leadership and experience of Marc Andreessen, will help us take the final steps toward our ultimate goal: making virtual reality something consumers everywhere can enjoy,” Oculus Rift CEO Brendan Iribe said.

We believe Oculus will not only alter the gaming landscape, but will redefine fundamental human experiences in areas like film, education, architecture and design,” Andreessen added. We’re incredibly excited to help them change the world.”

More details are expected to be announced ahead of the weekend.
