Ouya to miss June 4th launch

Crowd-funded Android console Ouya will not launch at the beginning of June, as was originally planned.

Instead, it will land on shelves a few weeks later on June 25th. Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman claimed the console was delayed in order to meet retail demand, according to Joystiq.

"We’ve had incredibly positive reactions from our retail partners, and so in order to meet their greater than expected demand, we decided to shift the launch date by three weeks, which will allow us to create more units and basically have more units on store shelves in June," she told the site.

The forthcoming console is under many a watchful eye, with critics concerned that the tech is already "a generation old" and doesn’t compare too favourably with other Android devices such as smartphones.

The hardware itself also came under fire, although Joystiq reports that Ouya has promised the controller will be modified before launch.

However, Ouya has garnered significant support from the development sector, with 10,000 studios currently working on games for it.

The console will be available to buy from GAME, which has been taking pre-orders since March.
