PES 2016 roster update not arriving until the end of October

Konami has said that it won’t be releasing a roster update for the recently released PES 2016 until October 29th.

That means those who purchased the game on day one face a wait of around six weeks before the squads are updated to reflect the summer transfer activity. EA’s FIFA 16, which released yesterday, shipped with fully updated squads.

Before then Konami is on October 1st releasing a patch to add Live Updates, which alters an individual player’s stats in the online game according to their real-world form. As well as updating the squads, the October 29th update will also add some further likeness upgrades as well as seven new teams – Galatasaray, Panathinaikos, Partizan Belgrade, Maccabi Tel Aviv, HJK, Qarabag and APOEL.

The news of the belated squad updates has led to lots of criticism online, which will come as a blow to Konami following the excellent critical reception received by the title.

The general consensus seems to be that PES 2016 has the better of FIFA 16 in gameplay terms – a first for the series since its PS2 heyday. Konami’s title currently has a PS4 Metacritic score of 88 per cent, which is a fair way ahead of FIFA 16’s 82 per cent. On Xbox One both games have 85 per cent.
