Project Spark is dropping microtransactions

Xbox One title Project Spark is ditching its free-to-play elements and becoming a properly free game.

From October 5th all of the title’s previously premium content will be offered for free to both new and existing users. On the same day developers Team Dakota and Skybox Labs will introduce a number of new features, including an increase to the maximum number of props and upload slots.

The Project Spark Martketplace is being scrapped completely and the UGC ranking system will get an overhaul, with ranking now based on favourites and downloads rather than votes.

All of which means there will be no more Conker content coming to the game, meaning all planned remainign Conker episodes will now not be released.

Players who have bought content, activated a retail disc or have an in-game token balance will receive a rebate for the amount credited to their Microsoft Store credit balance between 30 and 60 days after the switch takes place.

Project Spark’s goal has always been to empower creativity. We’ve been an incubation engine for ideas from epic to artistic and we plan to continue doing so,” Project Spark’s acquisition/engagement boss Rahul Sandil said.

Project Spark inspires and empowers over 200,000 creators who have shared tens of millions of custom objects, behaviours and experiences. Every day we see anywhere between 300 and 400 new games being uploaded on our platform. Our support of these creators and our communications with them will continue in an open, free and collaborative environment.”
