Skyrim remaster will launch with mod support and native 4K on PS4

Despite Sony aparently blocking mods on PS4 just a few weeks back, Bethesda has announced that Skyrim Special Edition will launch with mods and native 4K.

Skyrim Special Edition, the remaster of Bethesda’s 2011 classic, will feature mod support when it launches on October 28th. Mods will allow you to modify and create your own content by using the Creation Kit, however you will not be able to import any external assets to the PS4 version, instead relying on what is already in the game.

People who are less interested in building mods, and who just want to play around with other people’s works will be able to do so directly from the game itself, proving they have a Bethesda.net account.

Not only is Skyrim getting mod support, but it will also render in native 4K on the upcoming PS4 Pro.

Fallout 4 will also eventually get in on the mod action on PS4, with Bethesda promising that their attention will turn to the title once Skyrim Special Edition is out of the door. They also stated that they expect to get it running in 4K with enhanced lighting and graphics features on the PS4 Pro.

We are excited finally to get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long,” read the post on Bethesda’s website. Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform.”
