Sony has acquired Insomniac Games, the studio behind the hugely successful PlayStation 4 exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man. Sony says the acquisition comes after “a working relationship between Insomniac Games and SIE spanning more than 20 years”, and the new partnership will “enhance the creative force within SIE WWS […] that continues to raise the bar on open world, story-driven games”.

Insomniac Games – which is currently based in Burbank, California, and Durham, North Carolina – is also the award-winning studio behind franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance. Its latest release, Marvel’s Spider-Man, has now sold 13.2m copies as of July 28th, 2019.

Insomniac Games joins other Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, including first-party developers Guerilla, Naughty Dog, and Media Molecule.
