Sony to increase one and three month PlayStation Plus subscription prices

Sony is hiking the price of some of its PlayStation Plus subscriptions – specifically its one and three-month costs.

At the moment, one month of PlayStation Plus will set consumers back 5.49, while three months of the online service costs 11.99. Sony says that these are set to rise ‘in line with market conditions’.

Incidentally, the 39.99 one-year subscription isn’t set to change in price.

In a statement – as reported byEurogamer–a SCEE spokesperson said: We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content. From 1st September 2015 we will be increasing the price of monthly and three month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions. We will continue to invest in PS Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features.”

As of the end of 2014, 7.9m people were using PlayStation Plus.

As of the PlayStation 4, gamers who want to play online have to use the service. Subscribing to Plus also grants you access to the Instant Game Collection, a monthly selection of ‘free’ games.
