Stardew Valley passes 1m sales

A small rural simulator born out of frustration with the Harvest Moon series is one of the biggest PC hits this year.

Less than two weeks after its release it was reported that Stardew Valley was nearing half a million copies sold. Now Polygon has had it confirmed from publisher Chucklefish that the game has passed the 1m sales milestone, hitting 1,007,000.

That’s actually more than the 939k estimated by SteamSpy, which ranks it as the fourth best-selling 2016 release so far after H1Z1: King of the Hill, Ark expansion Survival of the Fittest and multiplayer outing Sven Co-op.

It also puts it ahead of the free-to-play version of PES 2016, XCOM 2 and The Division.

"It’s been really exciting for us to help bring this game to people’s attention, and the success really couldn’t have come to a more deserving person,” Chucklefish representative said of lone developer Eric Barone.

Barone last week told MCV that he’s already in talks over a possible console port.
