Swery opens new indie studio

Japanese developer Hidetaka Swery” Suehiro has opened a new indie studio in Osaka, marking his long-awaited return to game development.

The studio, named White Owls Inc, will focus on video games, VR and books, but it looks as though Swery will also be branching out to work on other projects such as art installations, events and lectures.

Swery’s most recent project was the 2014 Xbox One title Deadly Premonition D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die, which was then later released on PC in June 2015. However, after the game’s completion he took a break from game development due to being diagnosed with reactive hypoglycaemia. He announced his departure from D4-developer Access Games in October 2016, stating he hoped he would return to the industry at some point in the future.

It’s not yet clear what White Owls Inc’s first project will be, but Swery states the studio is working very hard on it and that more information will be announced soon.

Hello, and nice to meet you. I’m the president and CEO of White Owls, SWERY,” he wrote on the company’s new website.

White Owls is a small development company that was born in Osaka on November 1, 2016. Our slogan is "From Osaka to all of YOU around the World," and we’re working day and night to create completely unique things that no one’s ever seen before.”

We at White Owls hope to keep growing until we can someday evolve into a similar type of mystical entity. We’ve only barely taken our first breath, but we hope you’ll keep an eye on us as we embark along our journey.”
