The International Game Developers Association is working with the FBI to try and tackle the recent rise in harassment suffered by game developers online.
Polygon reports that the two organisations met in July, with IGDA executive director Kate Edwards saying that the FBI has noted” and has monitored” the activity, although to date its focus has been more on hacking.
"What [the FBI] wanted from me was an interface for developers so they can share preventative measures they want to get out to us," Edwards said. "We met, discussed the issue and said, ‘let’s collaborate’.
"They said if you have an online presence as a game developer you need to think about security issues. That was the basis of the meeting."
A spokeswoman for the FBI’s San Diego office added that the organisation wanted to let Ms. Edwards know the FBI’s capability”, insisting that those who feel they are being threatened should contact either the FBI or their local police department depending on "whichever they feel more comfortable with".
The IGDA earlier this week pledged to support any developers who have or are suffering at the hands of organised bullying online.
