5PLUS50K12 wins Deadman Autumn Invitational to scoop $20,000

RuneScape’s Deadman Autumn Invitational took place over the weekend, with RoT’s 5PLUS50K12 emerging as the winner.

The final took place at Runefest 2017, which was held at London’s Battersea Evolution. Hundreds of thousands watched as those who had won their places over the last three months of qualifiers battled it out.

A $10k charity donation prize was also picked up by TeamLUL, which nominated Make-A-Wish for the windfall.

“Congratulations to ‘5PLUS50K12’ on their triumph, it was a great battle and they are a well-deserved victor,” Old School Runescape’s senior product manager Mathew Kemp said. “The Deadman Invitationals have continued to experience greater and greater success in the competitive gaming scene since they launched nearly two years ago, and the Autumn Invitational was no different.

“Holding the final at RuneFest in front of many hundreds of people created a visceral atmosphere of tension and excitement.”

An air of controversy apparently embroiled the event, however. ENUK reports that in a twist to the usual rules, once just 200 players remained they were split into four islands of 50 players. One of these islands had seven players from one team, and in the end winners were decided after a number of disconnects, which seemed on the face of it to be a bit suspicious.

There is of course no way to prove foul play, but the game’s Reddit community is full of assorted demands ranging from disqualification of RoT from future tournaments, general calls for ongoing protesting and a touch of directed swearing.
