Evil Geniuses release their Overwatch team after two months

Evil Genuises have released their Overwatch team into free agency after just two months, shortly after the team failed in their bid to qualify through the North American Overwatch Contenders open qualifiers.

The team were formerly known as East Wind, and were signed by Evil Geniuses in April. Initially they’d had some success, snagging first place wins in several small online tournaments, but they were unable to get big results at larger events.

Evil Geniuses join the long list of esports organisations taking a step back from professional Overwatch over the last few months, with several citing a lack of confidence in the professional scene. Like these other organisations, Evil Geniuses doesn’t believe it’s bidding adieu to Overwatch forever, stating that they’ll continue to watch the scene evolve to see how it develops.

In a statement, Evil Geniuses CEO Peter Dager said: "It’s unfortunate to see the guys going, but I’m excited to see what is next for them as they grow along with Overwatch," Evil Geniuses CEO Peter Dager said in a statement. "Talented and passionate players have always found homes here at EG and this team was full of them. I wish all of the guys the best of luck as they embark on the next journey of their esports careers."
