PUBG confirms Xbox One launch exclusivity for consoles

During Microsoft’s E3 presentation on Sunday, it was confirmed that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be coming to the Xbox.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently planned as a console exclusive for the Xbox One, although the date is currently unknown. The console port was no big secret, with developer Bluehole mentioning that a console version was in the works several times, but this announcement has confirmed that it’ll be coming for Microsoft’s big black box, although it’s not known how long that exclusivity could last.

The game’s a runaway success, making an estimated $38 million since its release onto Steam’s Early Access platform in May. and it’s been a massive success on Twitch too, frequently in the top five most-watched games on the platform.

It’s seen buy-in by several esports organisations, and although esports “isn’t a priority” for the time at Bluehole right now, it’ll be appearing in several tournaments for the bring-your-own-computer crowd at Dreamhack next week, and several esports organisations have already put teams together for the game.

Esports probably won’t flock to the Xbox One edition with the same gusto, but it’s nice to see console players getting a chance to get in on the action.
