VIDEO: A closer look at the final Steam Controller

After a long period of development, Valve has detailed the final form that its Steam Controller will take.

The joypad will launch alongside the first Steam Machines on November 10th, although pre-orders can get their hands on the hardware a month earlier.

The idea powering Valve’s unique design is the integration of mouse and controller. The hope is that while proving a decent controller for ‘standard’ games in its own right, the new pad will also facilitate the playing of titles primarily designed for mouse and keyboard.

This is done via a trackpad that doubles as a sort of hybrid analogue stick. A clever selection of buttons on the rear compliments this design, in theory granting the accuracy of mouse control with the convenience of a regular controller.

Users will be able to switch between controller schemes on the fly, too.
