Xbox 360 lifetime sales hit 80m units worldwide

Microsoft has announced the Xbox 360 has reached 80m sales worldwide since its launch in 2005.

Responding to Sony’s PS3 outpacing the 360 at US retail last month, Microsoft revealed the latest lifetime milestone – adding that the company’s currently available console has sold 1.6m units this year in the US alone.

Software sales for the Xbox 360 reached $401.2m in September, the highest of any console in the US.

Microsoft also states preorders for the Xbox One are ahead of 360 within the same time period.

"Looking ahead to Xbox One launch, we continue to see overwhelming demand for the console with pre-orders for Xbox One selling out quicker than any previous Xbox release,” the company stated.

Xbox One pre-orders continue to outpace Xbox 360 pre-orders in the same time period. While we remain on track to honor all pre-order commitments, we do expect to sell every Xbox One we deliver to retail this holiday."
