Xbox One requires 15-20 minute day one update download

New Xbox One owners next month will be required to download and install a sizable patch on day one.

We are optimising Xbox One so that the day one update is as fast as possible,” Xbox One chief platform architect Marc Whitten told IGN. While we’re still finalising the details, we expect that the download will take between 15 and 20 minutes for most users.”

Whitten also confirmed that developers will for the first time have the choice of making game updates optional.

Content providers will have the ability to push two types of content updates with Xbox One: ones that are immediately mandatory like in Xbox 360 and ones that are optional,” he added. If you opt to not take an optional update, you can continue to play online and do the update at a later time.”

The exec also confirmed that users can be signed into an Xbox One and Xbox 360 using the same gamertag at one time, although this is not the case with multiple Xbox Ones or Xbox 360s.

Xbox One will be released in many major territories on November 22nd.
